MP+A Foundation invests in social development. We are a needs-led foundation that works with various grassroots organisations, local communities and partners to achieve social impact. We prioritise those most in need, and projects that result in long-term sustainable development.
MP+A Foundation is a hands-on funding partner. As a needs-led foundation, we believe that our beneficiaries are best placed to determine their own needs and how we can support them. We consult extensively with our beneficiaries and expert implementation partners throughout our projects.
Our Latest Projects
Our most recent projects have been based in South Africa, due to a need for social development in this country, however we will fund projects in any country where there is a need for our support.
South Africa has the highest level of inequality in the world as measured by the gini-coefficient
68% of South Africans (42m people) live in poverty, with 28% (18.2m people) living in extreme poverty
33.2% of South Africans are unemployed and only 28% of people aged 20 and older have completed secondary schooling

About This Project
At Motshegofadiwa Primary School, we've built a soccer field and sports court to provide children with safe spaces for play and development. Through sports, we're helping children develop discipline, teamwork, and a sense of belonging.
We've provided sports kits, equipment, and training to ensure that every child has the opportunity to participate. Sports and extracurricular activities create school pride and give children opportunities they might not otherwise have.
This project was inspired by Maddoc, who noticed that some children have quite difficult lives and don't always get the chance to just play. Through this initiative, we're creating those opportunities and making a lasting impact on the community.

Who We Are
MP+A is a family foundation inspired by the passion and determination of Maddoc Merks.
During a family holiday to South Africa, Maddoc was struck by how difficult some people's lives seemed to be and how unfair it was that some children in South Africa didn't have the same opportunities to just be a kid like he was.
Maddoc wanted to understand why children weren't able to play sports and games at school like he and his friends were. He also wanted to know how he could get involved to help change that.
He asked his parents to help him find organisations working to give children more opportunities to play sports, and to meet with non-profits and schools so he could better understand the problem. This process not only inspired our first project at Motshegofadiwa Primary School, but also the formation of MP+A Foundation.
We are now a needs-led funding organisation, dedicated to investing in social development.
Maddoc remains involved in, and deeply committed to MP+A, and is supported by the whole family foundation to achieve this goal.
